Pulling the code takes thirty seconds and tells you almost nothing. What it costs is the testing after it: the circuit, the sensor, the thing upstream that made a good part look bad. You get the code read free while you wait, and the diagnostic fee only starts if you want us to find out why.

We measure the pads and the rotors and send you the photos with the numbers on them. New pads are around 12mm. If yours are at 3mm we will say so, and if they are at 7mm we will tell you to come back in the spring instead of selling you a brake job today.

Manufacturer intervals exist because somebody tested when things fail. We do the service your car is actually due for rather than the package that pays best, and we will show you the schedule out of the book if you want to see where the number comes from.
Mounted, balanced, aligned, and told the truth about tread.
An alignment after new tires is not an upsell, it is what stops you buying tires again in fourteen months. We show you the before and after printout every time, so you can see whether it needed doing.
Leak-tested first. Recharging a leak just pays us twice.
Refrigerant does not get used up. If yours is low, it went somewhere, and putting more in without finding out where means you are back in July. We test with dye and a sniffer, find the leak, then talk about what it costs to fix.

Nobody in North Carolina can legally charge more than $30 for this, and anyone who does is doing something else to your bill. An illuminated check engine light is an automatic emissions failure, so bring it in and we will read the code free before you spend anything.

Timing components, head gaskets, transmissions, differentials. These are the repairs where a bad quote costs you thousands, so we tear down far enough to be sure, send you photographs of what we found, and give you a written number before a single new part is ordered.
