Brakes

Brakes are the one repair nobody should put off, and the one most often oversold. We measure every pad and rotor, show you the numbers, and tell you plainly whether you are looking at today, three months, or next year.

Closed - opens tomorrow at 7:30am

You might need this if

  • A squeal that appears when you brake and goes away when you do not
  • A grinding noise - stop driving it and call us
  • The pedal pulses or the steering wheel shakes when you slow down
  • The pedal feels soft, or sinks toward the floor
  • The car pulls to one side under braking

How we do it

  1. Measured in millimeters

Every pad gets measured and photographed with the gauge in the shot. New pads are about 12mm; we start talking replacement around 3mm.

  2. Rotors: turned, or replaced, or left alone

Not every brake job needs rotors. If yours are within spec and running true, we will say so and you will save a couple hundred dollars.

  3. The whole system, not just the noisy corner

Calipers, hoses, hardware and fluid get checked too. Brake fluid absorbs water over time, and old fluid is why a pedal goes soft.

Brakes: what people ask

I was quoted brakes at a quick-lube place. Should I trust it?

Ask them for the measurement in millimeters and a photo. Any honest shop can produce both in a minute. If all you get is 'they look low', bring the car here and we will measure it for free.

How long can I drive on squealing brakes?

A squeal is usually the wear indicator doing its job: you have some time, but not a season. A grind means metal on metal, and every day of that adds a rotor to the bill.
