Check Engine Light & Diagnostics
A code reader tells you which circuit reported a problem. It does not tell you what is wrong. The difference between those two things is the difference between fixing your car once and buying three parts that did not need replacing.
You might need this if
- The check engine light is on, or flashing - if it is flashing, stop driving and call
- The car runs rough, hesitates, or stalls at idle
- Fuel economy dropped noticeably
- The car failed an emissions inspection
- Another shop replaced a part and the light came back
How we do it
-
Pull the codes, then ignore them for a minute
We record every stored and pending code plus the freeze-frame data, which tells us what the engine was doing the moment the fault set.
-
Test the actual system
Live data, a smoke test for leaks, a scope on the sensor if it comes to that. We are proving what failed, not guessing from the code number.
-
You get the reasoning, in writing
The estimate says what we found, how we know, and what it costs. If we are not certain, we say that too, and we will not spend your money to find out.
Check Engine Light & Diagnostics: what people ask
The parts store read my code for free. Why do you charge?
Because reading the code takes ten seconds and finding the fault takes an hour. A P0171 can be a vacuum leak, a dirty air sensor, a weak fuel pump or a failing injector. Buy the wrong one and the light comes back on the way home.
While you are here
The rest of what we do
- NC Safety & Emissions Inspection Licensed station. In and out in about half an hour, most mornings.
- Brakes Pads, rotors, calipers and lines. Measured and photographed, not guessed.
- Air Conditioning & Heat Leak found and fixed, not just topped up so it dies again in August.
- Oil & Scheduled Maintenance The right oil, the real interval, and an inspection that catches the next thing.
- Tires & Alignment Mounting, balancing, rotation and four-wheel alignment on a laser rack.
- Batteries, Starting & Charging Tested under load, replaced same day, and we will check why it died.
